The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov, took part in the high-level meeting on "The melting cryosphere: threats to groundwater conservation and water resources management" meeting organized by Tajikistan within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the MFA, issues of strengthening international cooperation in the field of glacier protection were discussed at the event. Ways to activate cooperation on the introduction of innovative methods in the field of rational use and management of water resources were considered.
Norov brought to the attention of the participants the information about the work carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to mitigate the consequences of global climate change praising the initiative of the head of Uzbekistan aimed at establishing the SCO Climate Council, promoting climate adaptation projects, increasing the efficiency of cooperation in the fight against desertification and land degradation.
In his speech, the Uzbek Foreign Minister specifically touched on the Aral Sea problem noting the creation of green hedgerows in the dry bottom of the Aral Sea, and a zone of ecological innovations and technologies.
Participants were invited to the First Aral Sea Forum to be held in Nukus in 2022.
