EBRD to support Uzbekistan in ecological projects implementations
September 1. Narzullo Oblomurodov, Chairman of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan, and Baltazar Lindauer, Director of the Nuclear Safety Department of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed an agreement to fund the recultivation of the Chorkesar and Yangiabad special landfills at the bank’s headquarter in London.
It is noted that the signing ceremony of the grant agreement worth 7 million euros took place on September 1 at the headquarters of the YTTB in London. In 2021, the first agreement in the amount of 2 million euros was signed between the State Ecology Committee and YTTB.
The 9 million euro grant project’s first phase took place last year when parties signed 2 million euro agreement from the special fund of the environmental rehabilitation account for Central Asia.
Within the framework of the grant project, measures for ecological improvement and recultivation of special plots will be carried out during 2022-2025. On the basis of an impartial examination and a comprehensive environmental assessment of risks and local conditions, experts have chosen the safest and most suitable options and plans for recultivation of the area, construction and installation, isolation and protection.
Reclamation work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2023 and will be completed in about two years. Construction and rehabilitation works within the project will be carried out with the participation of local and German specialists.
