Gulnoza Said, the European and Central Asia coordinator of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), was not allowed to enter Uzbekistan on August 30.
The problem had been resolved after the Public Foundation for Support and Development of National Mass Media’s involvement. The foundation was quick to send a request to the state bodies that regulate the issues of entry and exit to Uzbekistan.
According to a report published by CPJ, officials at the Tashkent airport told Gulnoza Said that the immigration system indicated that she did not have permission to enter Uzbekistan.
Gulnoza Saeed, a US citizen, was told that she should stay at the airport until her flight to New York on September 1, and then she should leave the country.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the USA also intervened in the situation and took the necessary measures that helped Gulnoza Said to enter Uzbekistan with no hassle.
CPJ President Jodi Ginsberg thanked everyone for the practical help.
