Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave a speech at the ceremony dedicated to the 31st anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. Here is an English translation of his address.
Hello, dear fellow citizens!
Distinguished guests!
Ladies and gentlemen!
First of all, standing here in this huge "New Uzbekistan" park, I sincerely congratulate you, dear people, on the great day of our nation - Independence Day.
I express my highest respect and best wishes to all of you.
Dear friends!
Thirty-one years ago, a new, independent country called the "Republic of Uzbekistan" appeared on the world map.
We announced the national independence of our country to the world under the leadership of the first President, Honorable Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov.
Years and centuries have passed. But Independence Day, which restored our national statehood, identity and human rights, and is the foundation of all our achievements and milestones, will always be the greatest and dearest holiday for us and our future generations.
Dear fellow citizens!
For the past six years, we have started and consistently continued our comprehensive reforms in the new stage of the development of our country.
In the past period, the principle that "the public agencies should serve our people, not the vice versa, " has become the program of our activities.
Ministers and governors, MPs and senators, leaders and officials, in as our great poet Cholpon said, go and feel the nation’s problem, and serve them.”
We have every reason to say one truth with confidence: today's Uzbekistan is not the Uzbekistan of yesterday. Our nation today is not the nation of yesterday.
Despite the negative effects of the pandemic and the global crisis, our country is strongly moving forward on the path of a free, and prosperous life.
We all understand well that it is not easy to build the New Uzbekistan we are exerting all efforts to create the foundations of the Third Renaissance. There are many conditions and criteria for such a great task. But the most important and decisive factor is the path of democratic reforms.
Therefore, we will never turn back from this path, which fully meets the interests of our people. No matter how difficult it is, we will only move forward.
Dear participants!
