"The Pervomaiski district court of Bishkek found Almazbek Atambayev not guilty of organizing riots in Bishkek in October 2020 and acquitted him for lack of criminal content," Judge Ubaydulla Satimkulov read out the verdict. An Interfax correspondent reported from the courtroom.
Ex- Kyrgyz President was indicted on charges of organizing riots in October 2020 whose pre-trial detention measure had been changed to house arrest.
The court also acquitted Farid Niyazov - an adviser to Almazbek Atambayev, Kursan Asanov - a former deputy interior minister, and Kanat Sagimbayev - Atambayev's bodyguard.
The public prosecutor asked the court to sentence Atambayev to 12 years in a maximum-security prison.
