According to Tanzila Norbayeva, Senate chairperson, the views expressed by the public in Uzbekistan on social media are the opposition.
The Uzbek top official talked with a VOA (Voice of America) journalist where the interview touched upon gender equality, Russian sanctions, reforms, and political oppositionists.
"Why is there no opposition in Uzbekistan? There is criticism everywhere. But it will take time for it to be institutionalized. Now there is freedom of thought expressed to the parliament, leadership, government and so on. Isn't that the opposition? The people themselves may be in opposition. Open the Internet in a developed country, and even in the most developed, rich country, there will be protests from its own people. I consider it normal, ”Norbayeva answers.
Norbayeva said that appeals from the population to higher authorities would reach their owners, adding that there was no need for this anymore and that the higher authorities had come down.
President Mirziyoyev had ordered all officials to ‘come down’ so that there would be no "higher or lower classes".
