The Residents of Tokorozawa have begun raising money to preserve the Totoro Forest Park. The park inspired Hayao Miyazaki to create the classic cartoon "My Neighbor Totoro," according to hollywoodreporter.com
The park covers 3,500 hectares of untouched forest. The city plans to raise $ 19 million to prevent construction in the park. Everyone who donates will receive a special souvenir from the Ghibli studio cartoon symbol.
The cartoon "My Neighbor Totoro" is about two daughters of a university professor who moved to a new home in the 1950s. The girls meet the spirit of the forest and other fairy-tale characters nicknamed Totoro, invisible to adults. The Cartoon hit the big screens in 1988 and became the most beloved movie in Japan.
