The ADB has committed a substantial loan amounting to $240 mn, with a grace period of five years and repayment scheduled over a 25-year period, on a significant project of construction of internal roads with cement-concrete padding in Uzbekistan. The project, spanning nine years from 2024 to 2032 is outlined in a decision by the President of Uzbekistan.
The project, valued at $304.9 mn, aims to develop a network of domestic roads adhering to international standards, particularly targeting rural areas to bolster accessibility to public highways for residents.
Key elements of the project include the engagement of local contractors for construction works through competitive tenders, the establishment of a project implementation group within the "Avtoyolinvest" agency, and the formation of a working group tasked with attracting investments and introducing advanced technologies in the road industry.
In addition to infrastructural development, the project aims to stimulate economic growth and job creation by providing employment opportunities and fostering the transfer of knowledge and expertise through collaboration with international organizations and foreign experts.
To oversee the timely and effective implementation of the project, various ministries and agencies have been entrusted with specific responsibilities, ranging from legal assessments of loan agreements to environmental impact assessments and anti-corruption measures.
