Taliban names new ambassador to Uzbekistan
The Taliban government has appointed Abdul Ghafar Bahr as the new ambassador to Uzbekistan, replacing Mogfurullah Shahab. This decision was reported by Tasnim Agency, citing Afghan sources.
Abdul Ghafar Bahr, hailing from the Kandahar region of Afghanistan, previously served as the director of the investigation and research department at the Supreme Court of the Taliban government. He now assumes the role of coordinating relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in his capacity as ambassador.
The appointment comes after the short-term dismissal of Mogfurullah Shahab, the previous ambassador to Tashkent. The reasons for Shahab's dismissal were not disclosed.
Shahab, who was appointed in February this year, is the son of the country's Minister of Mines and Oil. His tenure as ambassador marked the Taliban government's diplomatic efforts to engage with Uzbekistan.
The Taliban leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, previously issued a directive prohibiting officials from appointing their relatives to state institutions. However, the effectiveness of this measure has been questioned in various cases.
Prior to Shahab, Ahmad Khalid Elimi served as the representative of the former Afghan government in Tashkent. Following the fall of the previous Afghan government, Elimi continued to work in Tashkent under the supervision of the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
