An agreement was signed between Uzbekistan Railways and Hyundai Rotem, following the visit of the President of South Korea to Uzbekistan on June 13.
The bilateral meeting took place at the Cabinet of Ministers, attended by several high-profile figures from both Uzbekistan and South Korea. Representing Uzbekistan Railways were Chairman Z. Narzullayev, First Deputy Chairman H. Rakhmetov, General Director of Temiryolekspress D. Khojiakbarov, and other key officials. The Hyundai Rotem delegation included President and CEO Lee Yong-bae, Vice-president Kim Jong-hoon, and Deputy Head of the Railway Department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Hyon Gichan.
The discussions culminated in the signing of a contract for the purchase of six high-speed passenger electric trains. This project is part of a broader plan detailed in paragraph 12 of the decree of the president of Uzbekistan, dated October 10, 2023. The project, supported by the Korea Economic Cooperation Development Fund, aims to enhance Uzbekistan's railway capabilities with advanced technology and efficient transport solutions.
The agreement not only involves the delivery of these high-speed trains but also includes provisions for their maintenance, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and reliability.
In addition to the agreement on electric trains, the meeting also explored further collaborative projects in various sectors, including green energy, gas-chemistry, tourism, and food. To solidify this commitment, a tripartite memorandum was signed between Uzbekistan Railways, Temiryoleexpress, and Hyundai Rotem.
