YTO Cargo Airlines from China will begin regular cargo flights to Uzbekistan effective June 6. This announcement was made during a meeting between Uzbekistan Airports and YTO Cargo Airlines. The first scheduled flight to Tashkent International Airport will be operated using the ARJ21-700 aircraft from the Chinese manufacturer Comac. Previously, YTO Cargo Airlines had operated charter flights to Tashkent using Boeing 757 aircraft.
Before Daryo announced that Uzbekistan and China aim to increase the number of direct flights between the two countries to 100 per week.
Currently, there are 18 flights per week between Uzbekistan and China, a result of efforts and agreements made during high-level dialogues. Uzbekistan Airways, China Southern Airlines, and Loong Air operate these flights, with 7 flights between Beijing and Tashkent, 5 between Urumqi and Tashkent, and 3 between Xian, Chengdu, and Tashkent per week.
From January through April 2024, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with China reached almost $4bn, reflecting an 18.1% increase compared to $3.3bn during the same period in 2023. China is leading trade partner of Uzbekistan, accounting for 19% of its total trade turnover.
During the first four months of 2024, Uzbekistan's exports to China were valued at $644.4mn, while imports from China totalled $3.3bn.
