"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomes the decision of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to exclude the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the list of prohibited groups in this country," read the statement on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Taliban Foreign Ministry representative Abdul Qahar Balkhi.
Highlighting the importance of this move, the statement continued,
"Kazakhstan is an important partner of Afghanistan in the region in terms of trade and transit, and this decision will pave the way for progress in bilateral relations and increased economic cooperation, which will benefit both countries."
Kabul views this action as "removing obstacles to raising the level of bilateral relations."
On June 3, President Tokayev announced that Kazakhstan had delisted the Taliban from its terrorist organizations' register to foster economic collaboration with Afghanistan. Tokayev emphasized that actively involving Kabul in interregional ties is one of Kazakhstan’s strategic goals. This decision was first revealed in December 2023 by Aibek Smadiyarov, an official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
