A meeting was recently held at the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan with Japanese Ambassador Hatori Takashi. The discussion focused on the progress of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan, as well as plans for further development of their partnership.
At the meeting, both sides highlighted Japan’s role as a reliable partner in Uzbekistan’s healthcare sector. With Japan’s support, several initiatives are underway to improve Uzbekistan’s medical infrastructure, including:
- Equipping medical facilities with modern equipment
- Implementing digital technologies in healthcare
- Training skilled medical professionals
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Asilbek Khudayarov, emphasized the importance of Japan’s contributions, particularly the medical containers equipped with advanced diagnostic tools. These containers are being deployed in remote regions, ensuring that high-quality medical services are available to underserved populations.
A major project in the cooperation between the two countries is the construction of an 800-bed clinic in Samarkand, set to be built in partnership with the Japanese corporation Sojitz. The clinic, a public-private partnership, is expected to greatly improve medical service delivery in the Samarkand region.
Additionally, Uzbekistan has established educational partnerships with Japanese medical universities to train healthcare specialists through joint programs. This collaboration helps bring advanced medical knowledge and technology to Uzbekistan, improving the overall quality of the healthcare system.
Japan has also continued its financial support through the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects” program, which funds small-scale social projects in Uzbekistan. At the meeting, agreements were signed to provide grants for three key medical centers:
- The Bukhara branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care
- The Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, and Immunology
- The Republican Perinatal Center
The allocated funds will be used to equip these centers with modern medical equipment, improving the quality of care for patients.
Ambassador Hatori Takashi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s healthcare sector, assuring that Japan will continue to help enhance the accessibility and quality of medical services across the country.
