The Termez Youth Hub was officially inaugurated at Termez State University in Uzbekistan. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding support from the government of Japan, established the hub to create new opportunities for youth development in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region.
Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Abdukodir Toshkulov, Rector of Termez State University; Takashi Hatori, Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan; and Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan.
In a country where nearly 60% of the population is under 30, Uzbekistan places high importance on initiatives that support young people. Youth are seen as pivotal agents of positive change and development, driving innovation and social progress.
The government's designation of 2024 as the Year of Support for Youth and Business emphasizes the country's commitment to policies and projects that foster a supportive environment for the next generation, advancing both human rights and economic development.
The Termez Youth Hub stands as a key initiative within this framework, aiming to address local needs and align with the national youth support agenda. The hub offers a variety of resources, including vocational training in information technology, entrepreneurship, and foreign languages, to help bridge the gap between education and employment. By equipping young people with valuable skills, the hub seeks to enhance job readiness and foster a thriving youth workforce in the region.
The initiative adds to a growing network of specialized youth centers in Uzbekistan, each designed to amplify efforts to empower young people.
