Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports to Turkmenistan by a total of $120mn across 80 different products, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced during expanded talks with Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. This commitment highlights Kazakhstan’s determination to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, with significant progress already made in recent years.
Tokayev emphasized the importance of fostering connections between the business communities of both nations, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises. He noted that a recent business tour of Kazakh companies to Turkmenistan demonstrated high investment potential.
In addition, Tokayev called for further development of entrepreneurial activity through the Kazakh-Turkmen Business Council, encouraging large companies to focus on launching projects in key sectors such as industry, construction, logistics, and communications.
The talks also stressed the growing strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, rooted in centuries of shared history, culture, and good neighborliness. Tokayev expressed confidence that the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments would further drive cooperation between the two nations.
Cultural and educational ties were also addressed, with Tokayev taking the opportunity to congratulate the Turkmen people on the 300th anniversary of the poet Makhtumkuli Fragi.
In turn, President Berdimuhamedov praised the visit of his Kazakh counterpart as a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations. He highlighted the centuries-old fraternal ties between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, emphasizing their shared values and intertwined historical destinies. The leaders also discussed joint initiatives in the gas sector, expanding mutual trade, and increasing regional cooperation.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several key agreements, including a Declaration on strengthening friendship and deepening the strategic partnership. Additional agreements covered areas such as investments, transport, energy, and digital development, reinforcing the long-term cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
