Carlsberg is set to enhance its footprint in Kazakhstan with a new soft drink production initiative. During a recent meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Kuantyrov, Investment Committee Chairman Gabidulla Ospankulov, and “NC “Kazakh Invest” Chairman Yerzhan Yelekeyev engaged with Carlsberg Kazakhstan President Vyacheslav Maltsev to discuss the company’s expansion plans in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
Maltsev highlighted Kazakhstan’s favorable investment climate and shared details about Carlsberg’s upcoming project aimed at producing soft drinks. The company is evaluating locations in the Almaty and Turkestan regions, as well as Shymkent, for this new venture. Carlsberg’s plan includes long-term investments to cater to both local and international markets.
Currently, Carlsberg is finalizing its investment approvals and seeks support to expedite the project’s launch and implementation. In response, Kuantyrov assured that Kazakhstan is committed to providing comprehensive support to investors, emphasizing efforts to create an optimal environment for investment projects.
The meeting also touched on potential cooperation to help Carlsberg’s products reach neighboring markets.
Founded in 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen, the Carlsberg Group is a major global brewery with a diverse range of beer and beverage brands. Operating in over 125 markets and employing more than 30,000 people, the Group is committed to responsible and sustainable practices that benefit both shareholders and society, aligning with its mission of brewing for a better future.
Carlsberg Kazakhstan has been a key player in the country’s beverage industry, consistently ranking among the top 50 largest taxpayers. The company invested over $213mn in recent years and inaugurated a $50mn production facility in Almaty earlier this year.
This facility ensures complete localization of brewing and non-alcoholic products, opening up additional export opportunities to countries including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Belarus. Carlsberg Kazakhstan supports approximately 600 jobs at its Almaty plant and over 2,000 positions across its regional hub and distribution network.
