Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, held discussions with Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, at a high-level meeting in Tashkent on October 2. The meeting aimed to strengthen trade and economic relations between the two nations.
During the talks, both parties explored ways to deepen cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, green energy, tourism, and the food industry. The discussions stressed mutual interest in expanding collaborative efforts to boost economic growth in both countries.
The ministers agreed to take initial steps towards organizing the second meeting of the Uzbekistan-Indonesia Intergovernmental Commission on bilateral cooperation. This move signals a shared commitment to advancing trade partnerships and exploring new avenues of economic engagement.
Uzbekistan and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on June 23, 1992, recognizing each other's strategic importance. Bilateral trade has fluctuated between $10mn and $30mn, with Uzbekistan exporting cotton and electrical equipment, while Indonesia exports cocoa and rubber products.
Recent efforts include a Memorandum of Understanding on vegetable oil management to enhance economic cooperation. In 2023, both nations discussed an action plan for economic collaboration during a UN climate change conference, aiming to strengthen ties further.
