Aiymkan Kulukeyeva, a representative of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan, reported that as of July 1, there are an estimated 350,000 Kyrgyz citizens currently living in Russia. This information was shared during a recent interview with Birinchi Radio.
Kulukeyeva also noted that alternative reports suggest the number of Kyrgyz citizens in Russia could be around 260,000. She highlighted the ongoing wait for official data from Russian authorities, stating that the Ministry has been seeking updated statistics for nine months.
Previously, the Kyrgyz government estimated that approximately 1 mn citizens resided in Russia, with 700,000 to 800,000 of these individuals officially registered, while the remainder were classified as seasonal workers.
The consular specialist pointed out that analysis is underway regarding the destinations of Kyrgyz citizens. She indicated that not all citizens have returned to Kyrgyzstan, and there has been a noticeable shift in migration patterns. An increasing number of Kyrgyz individuals are reportedly seeking opportunities in countries such as the United States, South Korea, and Turkey, reflecting a change in their migration preferences.
