Kyrgyzstan significantly boosted its polished glass exports to Uzbekistan during the first 7M24, exporting 1.6 mn square meters of glass valued at $3.1mn, according to the National Statistics Committee. This marks a notable increase compared to the same period in 2023, where exports amounted to 656,000 square meters for $1.6mn.
The surge in trade reflects the growing demand for building materials in Uzbekistan, driven by increasing infrastructure and construction projects in the region. Kyrgyzstan has strengthened its position as a key supplier of polished glass to Uzbekistan, contributing to the country’s overall export growth in this sector.
Uzbekistan, while being a major importer, also plays an active role in the glass industry. The country exported $36.1mn worth of glass and glassware in 2022, with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan being its main trading partners.
Additionally, ongoing infrastructure projects across Central Asia are likely to maintain the upward trend in regional glass trade.
