Uzbekistan has officially established diplomatic relations with Botswana, marking a new chapter in its international outreach. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and his Botswana counterpart, Lemogang Kwape, signed a joint communique to formalize the relationship.
In a statement, Bakhtiyor Saidov expressed appreciation for Botswana’s economic growth and emphasized the desire to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors of both countries.
“We signed the Joint Communique on establishing diplomatic relations. Commend Botswana’s fast economic growth over the years. Agreed to facilitate more active collaboration among both public and private sector representatives of both nations.”
Botswana is the 153rd country to establish diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan. Prior to this, Uzbekistan had expanded its diplomatic network across Africa, establishing relations with Cape Verde, Seychelles, and Burundi.
Burundi became the 152nd country to formalize diplomatic ties with Uzbekistan. The joint communique was also signed by Bakhtiyor Saidov and Burundi's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Albert Shingiro, at the United Nations headquarters.
Similarly, diplomatic relations with Cape Verde and Seychelles were established following meetings with their respective foreign ministers. Cape Verde, located off the west coast of Africa, and Seychelles, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, are two African countries that have developed close ties with Uzbekistan in recent years.
