Uzbekistan's Ministry of Justice announced, referencing a decree from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, that specific tax benefits will be eliminated. Effective January 1, 2025, the exemption from Value Added Tax (VAT) for passenger transportation at a unified rate will be discontinued. This exemption, currently available to public organizations serving individuals with disabilities, will no longer apply.
In addition, the zero-rate land tax for owners of plots planted with mulberry groves, orchards, and vineyards will be terminated. From January 2025, these landowners will be required to pay land tax with a 50% discount.
Before, Uzbekistan also removed several VAT exemptions related to utility services, medical treatment, medicines, and medical devices.
As of September 1, the number of registered VAT payers in Uzbekistan has nearly reached 200,000, reflecting a 5% increase from the previous year. The largest number of VAT payers is found within the trade, agricultural, and industrial sectors.
Earlier, Daryo reported that the import of precious stones used for jewellery production into Uzbekistan will be exempt from value-added tax (VAT) for three years, following the signing of amendments to the country's regulatory and legal framework by the Uzbek leader.
