Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, announced that Afghan entrepreneurs will be exempt from all taxes at the new International Trade Center in Termez, a move aimed at fostering closer economic collaboration between the two countries.
On August 17, a high-level Uzbek government delegation, led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, visited Afghanistan, marking a step in enhancing bilateral economic relations.
During the forum, Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, outlined plans to boost bilateral trade, projecting it to reach $3bn soon. A pivotal element of this economic partnership is the preferential trade agreement set to take effect on October 1, which will eliminate import duties on various Afghan goods, including agricultural products, carpets, and certain construction materials.
Kudratov highlighted several initiatives to improve logistics and trade. The Ayritom-Hairatan border crossing has been operating 24/7 since August 1. Additionally, a 15-day visa-free regime and tax exemption for Afghan entrepreneurs have been introduced at the International Trade Center in Termez to foster business opportunities and encourage cross-border trade.
"The constant automobile communication between our countries will enhance entrepreneurial activity and further develop our trade relations. The 'Termez International Trade Center' will soon be operational, offering a 15-day visa-free stay and complete tax exemptions for Afghan entrepreneurs," Kudratov announced.
The two governments have also signed an agreement on mutual encouragement and protection of investors. To address ongoing issues and coordinate efforts, joint commissions and subcommittees have been established in various sectors, including trade, transport, mining, energy, agriculture, and customs.
Kudratov emphasized the importance of developing a trans-Afghan railway, which he believes will significantly benefit entrepreneurs, improve trade conditions, and serve as a key project for deepening economic ties between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
