Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a significant meeting with representatives from major companies and financial institutions from both countries in Samarkand on September 16. This high-level discussion led to the creation of a Strategic Program for Industrial and Technological Partnership. The program focuses on several key areas, including investments in green energy, critical mineral resources, and infrastructure projects.
The meeting resulted in substantial agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in various sectors:
Critical Mineral Resources: German companies are set to participate in exploring and processing critical mineral resources in Uzbekistan. This initiative aims to boost production and export high-value-added products to Germany and other international markets.
Green Energy and Industrial Cooperation: The two nations plan to enhance their collaboration in green energy initiatives, the production of green hydrogen, and other industrial sectors such as machine engineering and pharmaceuticals.
Infrastructure Modernization: There are plans to modernize Uzbekistan’s energy, transportation, communication, municipal, and tourism infrastructure. The collaboration also encompasses the privatization of industrial and service enterprises and the implementation of projects in healthcare, education, and environmental protection.
The meeting was attended by key figures such as Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, and Michael Harms, Managing Director of the Eastern Committee of German Business. Representatives from companies including Siemens Energy, Linde Group, and KNAUF, as well as banks such as KfW Development Bank, were present.
Uzbekistan's President emphasized the significance of fostering robust partnerships between German businesses and Uzbek companies, noting that many Uzbek private sector representatives are now strong partners for German firms. The discussions aimed to develop new project initiatives and extend ongoing collaborations in various sectors.
Concluding the meeting, President Mirziyoyev expressed hopes for the successful implementation of the discussed projects. Chancellor Scholz acknowledged the solid progress in bilateral relations and encouraged continued active participation from German businesses in joint initiatives.
