In August of 2024, Uzbekistan's Competition Committee of the Samarkand Region Administration undertook an investigation following a complaint filed by Mars Inc. (USA). The investigation identified that ice cream products produced by two regional companies, Agro Bravo and Sam Komildjon Fayz, featured similar branding and product names, including "MARS," "SNICKERS," which are brands owned by Mars, Inc. This similarity was found to constitute unfair competition.
The investigation confirmed that these practices breached Article 21 of the Republic of Uzbekistan's Law on Competition, which prohibits unfair competition practices involving competitors or other entities in their interests.
Following the investigation, the Special Commission of the Regional Administration initiated legal proceedings against Agro Bravo and Sam Komiljon Fayz for their violation of competition laws. Both companies were subjected to financial penalties.
In addition, directives were issued to prevent the recurrence of such violations and to ensure adherence to legal standards in the future.
