The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent marked a milestone in its ongoing support for English language education in Uzbekistan by welcoming 20 American English teachers. These educators will embark on a mission to enhance English instruction across the country, joining local teachers to deliver impactful classroom experiences for students.
This initiative is part of the U.S. government’s broader effort to bolster English language education in Uzbekistan. Since 2018, over $31.2mn has been invested in various teaching and learning programs, aimed at training more than 18,000 English teachers nationwide.
The collaboration between the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations reflects a commitment to advancing Uzbekistan’s education reforms and equipping students with essential linguistic and professional skills.
The 20 American teachers will be deployed across 10 regions of Uzbekistan for the 2024-2025 academic year. Their contributions are expected to significantly enhance English language teaching and learning throughout the country. Upon completing their assignments, these educators will return to the U.S., sharing their experiences and insights into Uzbek culture, thereby fostering stronger bilateral connections.
Since 2019, 98 American English teachers have already made a considerable impact, working in 21 public schools and over 30 universities throughout Uzbekistan. During their orientation in Tashkent, U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick emphasized the importance of their work.
“You all are playing an integral role not only in improving English language skills but in strengthening cultural connections between the United States and Uzbekistan,” he stated.
