Uzbekistan's Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has launched an investigation into UzAuto Motors concerning issues related to the Lacetti L-Style MT model, produced in 2023. The investigation follows multiple reports of vehicle defects leading to fire incidents.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a resident of Karakalpakstan, who reported that their Lacetti vehicle caught fire within five months of use. The fire was attributed to a technical defect, which the manufacturer did not resolve in the required time frame.
Further investigations revealed that similar incidents had occurred with other vehicles of the same model in the Navoi region, prompting further scrutiny.
In response, the Special Commission of the Competition Committee initiated a case against UzAuto Motors and its dealer PSM-Avtosavdo. The companies are required to conduct technical inspections of 37 Lacetti vehicles from the same production batch as the affected vehicle within 10 days.
The affected customer was provided with a replacement vehicle of the same model. In addition, a penalty of 1% of the vehicle's value has been imposed for each day of delay beyond the agreed repair and compensation period.
