A handover ceremony took place in Bishkek on September 2, where the Russian non-profit organization Eurasia donated 50 school buses to secondary schools in Kyrgyzstan's remote areas.
The event was attended by notable figures including Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic; Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation; and Alena Arshinova, State Duma deputy and Chairperson of Eurasia.
During the ceremony, Zhaparov praised the enduring partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Russia, highlighting the significant role that Russian contributions play in enhancing Kyrgyzstan’s educational sector.
"Kyrgyzstan and Russia have long had strong partnership relations, and we highly appreciate the contribution that our Russian colleagues make to the development of the educational sphere in our country. And not only the educational sphere. The Kyrgyz-Russian Development Fund is successfully operating. Joint projects, exchange of experience, support and cooperation - all this strengthens our ties and contributes to progress," Zhaparov voiced.
Zhaparov also noted that in 2023, Kyrgyzstan constructed 105 new secondary schools, a significant increase from just 15 in 2010, with the number of schoolchildren rising by nearly 500,000 during the same period. He discussed ongoing large-scale educational projects, including the construction of nine new secondary schools, a new campus for the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University in Bishkek, and a branch of Moscow State University in Karakol. He mentioned a program that brings Russian teachers to rural Kyrgyzstan to support local education.
The school buses were donated as part of an agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the Eurasia organization, aimed at preserving and promoting traditional values in the Eurasian region. Zhaparov highlighted the importance of education in building the nation’s future and discussed significant reforms underway to modernize the education system, including an increase in the construction and repair of educational facilities.
Chernyshov and Arshinova both delivered congratulatory speeches, and attendees had the opportunity to inspect the new school buses, which are expected to greatly benefit educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan’s remote areas.
