In a ceremony attended by National Guard Command, Major General Rustam Jurayev, Commander of the National Guard of Uzbekistan, awarded new ranks to a group of servicemen and their coaches who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Among the honorees, Captain Bakhodir Jalolov and Captain Hasanboy Dusmatov, both military officers of the National Guard, were promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel ahead of schedule.
The decision to advance their ranks was made in recognition of their contributions to promoting sports among servicemen and youth. Both Jalolov and Dusmatov have become exemplary figures within the National Guard, demonstrating loyalty, courage, and bravery in their roles.
The extraordinary promotions were granted with the approval of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The ceremony also recognized the achievements of the Uzbekistan national boxing team's coaching staff. Tulkin Kilichev, head coach of the national boxing team, and Rakhmatjon Ruziokhunov, senior coach of the national team, were honored for their contributions. Additionally, Lt. Col. Rasulov Elshod Yunusovich, head coach of the Uzbekistan women's national boxing team and a senior teacher at the specialized training center, was awarded the "Devoted Employee of the National Guard" medal.
The event began with a speech from Major General Rustam Juraev, Commander of the National Guard, who highlighted the unifying power of sports in fostering friendship and representing Uzbekistan on the global stage. He emphasized that the country's recent sports achievements are a direct result of significant state reforms, with a particular focus on the development of sports as a key policy area under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The ceremony was a solemn occasion, attended by high-ranking officials from the National Guard, leaders of the Federation of Hand-to-Hand Combat and Archery, directors of the Cavalry School, athletes, their parents, coaches, and students from the 22nd House of Kindness. Major General Juraev reiterated that one of the main priorities of President Mirziyoyev's administration is the promotion and support of sports across the nation.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Uzbek athletes participated in football, archery, diving, and women's wrestling, marking their Olympic debut in these sports.
The boxing team won 5 out of 7 possible gold medals, securing first place overall and moving Uzbekistan to 7th place in the all-time Olympic boxing medal rankings. This achievement set a new record in Olympic boxing history. Hasanboy Dusmatov and Ulugbek Rashidov became two-time Olympic champions, while Bakhodir Jalolov became the first two-time Olympic champion in his category.
