In Kyrgyzstan, the national budget has seen an increase, doubling from KGS 247.7bn ($2.9bn) in 2020 to KGS 577.2bn ($6.9bn) in 2023. This growth was highlighted by Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Administration of the President, during a recent meeting of the Presidential Administration board.
Zhaparov emphasized the government's commitment to modernizing fiscal policies, noting advancements in tax reporting technologies that have streamlined processes for taxpayers.
"We are introducing technologies that meet contemporary requirements. Taxpayers no longer face long queues for submitting reports; they can now do so quickly and efficiently," he said.
The number of cash registers has surged to over 100,000, a sixfold increase in three years.
Looking ahead, Zhaparov announced that as of July 1, 2024, patent-based trading activities will be phased out. He also stressed the government's focus on boosting domestic and foreign investments, particularly in the industrial sector.
"We are actively opening new enterprises. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, we planned to open at least 100 new enterprises. Since the beginning of 2024, 29 enterprises have already been commissioned," Zhaparov reported.
Major projects like the Kambarata HPP-1 and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway are also underway.
In tourism, Zhaparov outlined exciting new developments. Three major infrastructure projects are set to transform the sector: "Kyrgyz Courchevel," "Baytik Resort," and "Chatkal Resort." The Kyrgyz Courchevel project, led by the French company S3V, aims to create a world-class ski resort with 200 km of slopes, capable of hosting up to 850,000 tourists annually.
Additionally, efforts are ongoing to establish the Baytik Resort cluster and explore a potential collaboration with Uzbekistan for the Chatkal Resort.
Zhaparov concluded with a call for continued professionalism, creativity, and discipline to sustain the momentum of these ambitious projects.
