The Agency for Strategic Reforms, in conjunction with the State Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has prepared a draft resolution concerning the enhancement of the country’s tourism sector. The announcement was made by the agency's press service on July 29.
The draft resolution outlines several new tourism initiatives planned for development by 2025. These initiatives include:
- Geological tourism: This category will feature guided tours of mining sites and decommissioned geological and industrial locations, providing visitors with insights into the country's geological heritage.
- Industrial and scientific tourism: This segment will involve tours of production facilities within the mining and metallurgical sectors, allowing visitors to observe industrial operations and technological processes.
- Military tourism: For those interested in military history, the proposal includes access to military training grounds. Additionally, there will be options for paid shooting activities in military zones.
The draft resolution anticipates that the successful implementation of these initiatives—encompassing the development of new tourist routes, the integration of modern information and navigation systems, and improvements to infrastructure—will enhance the influx of tourists and contribute positively to Uzbekistan’s economic development.
As of early March 2024, Uzbekistan’s tourism industry recorded a sharp surge, with the number of tourists reaching 974,200. This marked an annual growth rate of 11.9%. Most of the tourists arrived from Tajikistan, totalling 363,300 visitors.
