In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan saw a rise in tourist arrivals, Statistics Agency reported. From January to June, the country welcomed 3.5mn foreign tourists, marking an increase of 13.3% compared to the same period last year.
Among the top visiting nations, Kyrgyzstan led the pack with 1mn citizens crossing the border into Uzbekistan for tourism. Tajikistan followed closely with another 1mn visitors, while Kazakhstan contributed 668,400 tourists to the total count.
Detailed breakdowns of tourist arrivals from other countries include Russia with 364,500 visitors, Turkmenistan at 67,200, Türkiye with 51,900, China recording 28,700, India at 28,200, South Korea with 19,600, and Italy hosting 17,700 travelers. An additional 181,000 tourists arrived from various other countries during this period.
Simultaneously, Uzbek citizens displayed a growing appetite for international travel, with 2.2mn nationals embarking on trips abroad for tourism purposes between January and May 2024.
This figure represents a substantial increase of 35.5% compared to the same period in the previous year. Among the preferred destinations for Uzbek tourists were the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
The surge in both inbound and outbound tourism highlights Uzbekistan's growing appeal as a tourist destination and its citizens' increasing interest in exploring international destinations.
