The government of Thailand has officially introduced a visa-free entry regime for citizens of Uzbekistan and 92 other countries, the Ministry of Interior reported. This new policy allows visitors from these nations to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without needing a visa.
According to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan, this initiative expands the previous list of 57 countries whose citizens could enter Thailand without a visa. The new additions to this list include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russia, bringing the total to 93 countries.
The new visa-free regime is applicable to all border posts, providing more flexibility and ease of access for tourists. The Thai government has implemented this measure unilaterally, aiming to stimulate the economy. However, it is noted that this policy could be subject to future changes.
Before the introduction of this visa-free regime, citizens of Uzbekistan could obtain a 15-day tourist visa on arrival at Thai airports for a fee of $60. The new policy now allows for a longer, 60-day stay without the need for any visa formalities upon arrival.
In 2023, more than 34,100 Uzbek citizens traveled to Thailand, marking a fourfold rise from the previous year, according to Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports. By early May 2024, the number of Uzbek visitors had reached 16,300, reflecting an annual growth of 1.2 times.
