Thailand implemented a visa-free regime for citizens of Uzbekistan, allowing stays of up to 60 days, Thai Government reports. This new policy is part of a broader initiative by the Thai government to extend visa-free access to residents of over 30 countries. With this new regulation, citizens of 93 countries can now visit Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. Previously, Uzbekistan citizens had to obtain a visa upon arrival in Thailand.
The Thai Cabinet of Ministers approved a measure allowing foreign students to remain in the country for an additional year after graduating from a local university. Previously, students were required to leave the country immediately after receiving their diplomas.
Over 34,100 Uzbek citizens visited Thailand in 2023, a fourfold increase compared to the previous year, Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports. As of early May 2024, the number of Uzbek visitors reached 16,300, showing an annual growth of 1.2 times.
Uzbekistan’s passport has shown considerable progress, securing the 128th place among 199 countries in the VisaGuide.World ranking. As of January 2024, Uzbek citizens can enjoy visa-free entry to 31 states, and a visa-on-arrival option is available in 32 countries.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Kazakhstan secured the 52nd position in the World Economic Forum's 2024 Travel and Tourism (T&T) Development Index, marking an ascent of six places since 2019.
In the Central Asian region, Kazakhstan emerged as a frontrunner, outpacing its neighbouring countries in the T&T development index. Uzbekistan secured the 78th position, Tajikistan followed at 99th, and Kyrgyzstan trailed slightly further behind at 102nd.
