In a move aimed at fostering closer ties and promoting tourism and trade, Kazakhstan and Macau have inked a landmark agreement introducing a visa-free regime between the two regions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported.
The agreement, signed by Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China (PRC) Shakhrat Nuryshev, and Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macau Special Administrative Region of China André Cheong Weng Chon, is set to facilitate smoother travel between the two territories.
As per a statement released by Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, the visa-free arrangement will allow citizens of both regions to visit each other for up to 14 days without the need for a visa. However, the implementation of the agreement is subject to the completion of domestic procedures in both countries.
The foreign ministry expressed optimism regarding the agreement, highlighting its potential to bolster bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, economy, culture, and tourism. With easier access for travelers, it is anticipated that the flow of people between Kazakhstan and Macau will increase, fostering greater exchanges and collaboration.
Macau, a vibrant special administrative region in Southern China, is renowned for its bustling entertainment industry, earning it the moniker "Las Vegas of the East" due to its plethora of grand casinos and shopping destinations. The visa-free regime is expected to further enhance Macau's allure as a tourist destination for Kazakhstani travelers.
This recent development follows Kazakhstan's earlier agreement with China in November 2023, which introduced a visa-free regime between the two neighboring countries. While that agreement facilitated travel for Kazakhstanis to mainland China for various purposes, including business, tourism, and medical treatment, it excluded regions such as Hong Kong and Macau.
Currently, citizens of Kazakhstan enjoy visa-free access to 34 countries, a testament to the nation's efforts to promote international cooperation and facilitate global mobility.
