The UNDP in Turkmenistan organized a two-day seminar "Enhancing Professional Skills and Employment Opportunities for Vulnerable Youth in Turkmenistan through a Gender Lens," held on July 10-11, 2024, at the UN headquarters in Ashgabat. This seminar was a component of the regional initiative "Promoting Resilient Communities to Prevent Violent Extremism in Central Asia."
Participants included representatives from various organizations such as the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan, the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan, and other collaborators.
The seminar aimed to introduce participants to innovative approaches in policymaking and programs aimed at improving the professional skills and job prospects of vulnerable youth, with a particular emphasis on gender considerations.
Throughout the seminar, attendees examined successful methods and tactics for implementing skill enhancement initiatives. There was a specific focus on integrating gender perspectives into the design and execution of employment programs. Discussions also underscored the obstacles encountered by young women in the job market and explored avenues for cooperation to establish holistic support systems for youth employment.
Yelena Zotova, an international expert from UNDP, showcased various skill development initiatives from G20, BRICS, and CIS nations during the seminar. Her presentation highlighted the critical role of partnerships and collaborative strategies in enhancing youth employment. Participants actively discussed the creation of joint initiatives to foster a more inclusive and sustainable future for Turkmenistan.
The seminar served as a forum for exchanging perspectives on the current landscape of youth employment in Turkmenistan. It provided a platform for sharing insights and best practices aimed at tackling the specific challenges young people, particularly young women, face in accessing and thriving in the job market.
