President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed a Japanese delegation led by Tadashi Maeda, Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). The meeting focused on enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation with JBIC and promoting collaboration on projects involving Japanese companies.
President Mirziyoyev expressed deep satisfaction with the high-level visit to Japan in December 2019, which notably elevated bilateral relations and infused them with practical content. He highlighted the growing volume of mutual trade and direct Japanese investment in Uzbekistan's economy, as well as the creation of new joint ventures.
The president acknowledged JBIC's pivotal role in implementing priority investment projects in Uzbekistan. Currently, the portfolio of joint projects exceeds $3.7bn, encompassing sectors such as petrochemicals, textiles, energy, and infrastructure modernization.
Particular appreciation was given to the activities of the Sojitz Corporation in Uzbekistan. The corporation has successfully implemented several large projects in the oil and gas sector. tThe company recently opened a representative office in Tashkent, which marks a significant step in strengthening its presence in the country.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of swiftly preparing and executing new cooperation projects with Japanese companies, particularly in the fields of green energy, geology, infrastructure modernization, utilities, and healthcare.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to adopt a three-year Cooperation Program with JBIC. Additionally, a "road map" for implementing promising projects in high-tech sectors of Uzbekistan's economy was established with Sojitz Corporation.
