President of Uzbekistan launches first Chinese investment projects in Zaamin industrial technology park
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev initiates first investment projects in Zaamin technology park on June 27, which is located in Jizzakh region, as it was disclosed by presidential press service.
In recent years, the processing industry in Jizzakh has experienced substantial growth. Over the past five years, the volume of this industry has increased by 1.6 times, reaching UZS 19 trillion ($1.5 bn) in the last year alone. Export volumes from the region have also seen a significant rise, increasing by 2.2 times to reach $202mn. Foreign investment in Jizzakh has grown exponentially, from $18mn in 2018 to nearly $700mn last year. There are now 260 enterprises with foreign capital operating in the region.
Each district in Jizzakh contributes to this success story. In the Zaamin region, approximately 300 projects worth UZS 1.8 trillion ($143 mn) have been implemented over the past five years, resulting in the creation of over three thousand new jobs. The favorable business environment in Zaamin has led to a fourfold increase in the number of small business entities.
Tourism is becoming a key driver of the Zaamin region's economy, thanks to its beautiful natural landscapes. To enhance tourism services, the Zaamin tourist zone was recently established. Additionally, industrial development has commenced in Zaamin, leveraging the region's central location, railway access, and the recently expanded and reconstructed Zaamin Airport.
A special industrial zone, Technopark, is being developed in Zaamin in collaboration with the Chinese company Mingyuan. The zone spans 400 hectares, with a target infrastructure program approved and UZS 160 bn ($13 mn) allocated for its development. Thirty projects have already been formed, with Chinese investors committing $1.2bn.
The Technopark will focus on producing high-value-added and import-substituting goods for foreign markets. Specific projects will target sectors such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, building materials, the furniture industry, the food industry, and various services. These initiatives are expected to create over five thousand jobs, generate industrial products worth UZS 4.7 trillion ($373 mn), and establish an export potential valued at $70mn.
An International Center for the Exchange of Experience and Engineering will also be established within the Technopark, aimed at training qualified specialists for industrial enterprises. The park will feature an office center, residential buildings, an eco-park, a large exhibition hall, and a shopping center.
At a ceremony, the President of Uzbekistan pressed a symbolic button to launch the construction of the first investment projects within the Technopark. He wished the business community success in implementing these modern projects.
