Gazprom, the Russian state-owned energy company, has established a representative office in Uzbekistan. This information was confirmed by the press service of the Russian trade mission in Uzbekistan and recorded in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRLE), TASS disclosed.
The opening of Gazprom's office in Uzbekistan aligns with the roadmap adopted in May by the Uzbek Ministry of Energy and Gazprom Neft to expand cooperation. This move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational presence and collaborative projects between the two entities.
In June 2023, Uzbekistan signed a two-year gas purchase agreement with Gazprom. Under this agreement, the daily supply volume is set at 9mn cubic meters, with an annual total of nearly 2.8bn cubic meters. Gas deliveries began on October 7, 2023.
Gazprom plans to increase its gas supplies to Central Asia significantly. By November 1, 2025, the company aims to begin supplying larger volumes of gas through the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline. Additionally, Gazprom intends to finalize medium-term fifteen-year contracts with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan by mid-2024.
In February 2024, it was reported that the Uzbek government plans to modernize the main gas system to increase gas imports from Russia. The goal is to boost daily imports from 9 mn cubic meters to 32 mn cubic meters.
