A new trading house of Uzbekistan has been inaugurated in Klaipeda, Lithuania on June 24. The opening ceremony, reported by a correspondent from the Dunyo news agency, saw the participation of representatives from various ministries, departments, organizations, Lithuanian enterprises, and both business and public circles.
During the event, speakers highlighted the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and their positive outcomes, emphasizing the country's economic, investment, and export potential. The prospects of the new trading house in Lithuania were also discussed.
Kazys Starkevicius, Chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas Committee on Economic Issues, delivered a speech pointing out Lithuania's recognition of Uzbekistan as a key regional partner. He expressed Lithuania's interest in further developing trade and economic relations with Uzbekistan. Starkevicius noted that the establishment of the trading house is expected to boost trade volumes not only between Uzbekistan and Lithuania but also with other European countries.
Albertas Sitavičius, Co-Chairman of the Uzbek-Lithuanian Business Council, emphasized that the trading house's location in Klaipeda, the largest port city in the Baltic states, would significantly expand the export geography of Uzbek products. He highlighted the strong interest from Lithuanian logistics companies in collaborating with the newly established trading complex, suggesting a promising future for trade expansion.
The trading house was established by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in partnership with the Lithuanian company Uzterminal, which is situated in the Klaipeda State Port. Uzterminal operates within the largest Lithuanian logistics and stevedoring company, VEGA. The port of Klaipeda, with an annual throughput capacity of 70 million tons of cargo, plays a crucial role in global trade, facilitating the shipment of goods by sea and land to destinations worldwide.
This trading house in Klaipeda is Uzbekistan's second in Lithuania. In June 2023, Uzbekistan opened its first trading house in Vilnius.
