Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have announced plans to build the Talas-Chatkal-Tashkent highway, according to statements from the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Japarov. The decision was reached during a meeting between Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and his Kyrgyz counterpart in Urumqi on June 25.
The discussions focused on three major infrastructure projects outlined by the presidents of both countries. The Uzbek delegation, which included Ministers of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov and Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov, emphasized the strategic importance of these initiatives.
The Talas-Chatkal-Tashkent highway aims to bolster trade and tourism between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan by improving connectivity. Both nations are currently working on a detailed plan for the highway's construction, highlighting its potential to stimulate economic cooperation.
The meeting also addressed plans for the Kambarata Hydroelectric Station-1 and a hydroelectric power station on the Chatkal River. These projects aim to harness hydroelectric potential and strengthen energy cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Coal Logistics Center
Additionally, discussions included the establishment of a conveyor belt and a coal logistics center to facilitate coal imports from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan. This infrastructure is crucial for ensuring a reliable energy supply chain and enhancing energy security in the region.
