Iran’s imports of products from Uzbekistan saw a decrease in both value and weight for the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same period last year. The country imported 1,360 tons of goods from Uzbekistan, valued at about $3mn during this period, Iran's Customs Administration reports. This represents a 3% decrease in value and almost a 40% reduction in weight compared to the same month last year when imports amounted to 2,240 tons valued at over $3mn.
The imports from Uzbekistan mainly consisted of cotton, beans, silk, and ammonium nitrate.
Over the past Iranian year (March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Iran imported 84,700 tons of goods from Uzbekistan, worth $125mn. This reflects a 72.7% increase in value and a 140% increase in weight compared to the previous year (March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
For the first month of the current Iranian year, Iran's non-oil imports totalled 2.4 mn tons, valued at $2.7bn. This shows an 11.4% decrease in value but a 33.4% increase in weight compared to the same month last year.
Iran primarily focuses on importing essential goods while restricting imports of items that are produced domestically.
