Turkmenistan recorded a total of 74,285 mobile banking users as of early June 2024, showing a substantial rise in digital financial services usage. The Central Bank of Turkmenistan noted this represents an increase of almost 14% compared to the same period last year, which had 64,901 registered users.
The Lebap region reported the highest number of mobile banking users with 19,638, followed by the Mary region with 18,763 users, and Ashgabat city with 15,063 users.
The Turkmenistan State Commercial Bank had the highest number of registered users at nearly 19,000. It was followed by Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank with 17,215 users, and Dayhanbank State Commercial Bank with 15,316 users.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Rysgal Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (Turkmenistan) intends to extensively implement Internet banking and Mobile banking payment systems.
This initiative was a focal point of a government meeting where President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the significance of enhancing cashless payments, as outlined in the State Programme for the Development of the Digital Economy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025.
