Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan has signed a resolution to allocate KZT 3.4bn ($7.6mn) from the government reserve for the further modernization of the Ekibastuz Thermal Power Plant (CHPP). This initiative aligns with the directives of the president aimed at the comprehensive restoration of housing and communal services infrastructure across the nation.

The allocated funds will be directed towards the overhaul of five boiler units (Boiler units 11-15) at the Ekibastuz CHPP, amounting to KZT 2.4bn ($5.4mn), and the construction of a clarified water main, costing KZT 988mn ($2.2mn). These endeavors aim to enhance the reliability of the heat source, mitigate the risks of emergency situations, ensure a stable heat supply for residents, and catalyze further socio-economic development in Ekibastuz.
Ekibastuz CHPP currently stands as the sole source of centralized heat supply for the city. Last year, utilizing funds from the government reserve, a significant overhaul was conducted on five hot water boilers and heating networks, resulting in a heating season devoid of major incidents.
During a recent working trip to the Pavlodar region in March, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the necessity of continuing the modernization of engineering infrastructure in cities such as Pavlodar, Ekibastuz, and Aksu.

Of particular concern is the clarified water supply system for hydraulic ash removal at Ekibastuz CHPP, installed in 1986. The pipelines within this system have exceeded their service life, potentially leading to heat supply constraints for consumers. Hence, the construction of a new clarified water main emerges as a top priority.
Earlier, KZT 16bn ($35.7mn) was allocated from the government reserve for the modernization of heat sources in Kentau, Ridder, and Kyzylorda. Additionally, over KZT 2.4bn ($5.4mn) was designated for heating system overhauls in Ridder, and KZT 816mn ($1.8mn) was allocated for boiler house repairs in Kokshetau.
This year's agenda includes the repair of power units, boilers, and turbines in several cities across Kazakhstan, including Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Atyrau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Karaganda, Aktau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk, Zhezkazgan, Aktobe, Stepnogorsk, Rudny, Balkhash, among others.
