In the last five years, the number of businesswomen in Uzbekistan has doubled, exceeding 200,000 women who have started their own businesses, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reported.

The third meeting of the female members of parliament of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States convened on June 5, 2024, with a focus on the role of women in the economies of TurkPA member states and their contribution to entrepreneurship. Representatives from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Northern Cyprus attended the gathering.
Discussions centered on strategies to enhance women's participation in the economies of Turkic countries. Gulnara Marufova, a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and part of Uzbekistan's delegation, highlighted the reforms underway in Uzbekistan, championed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, aimed at providing comprehensive support for women.

Marufova emphasized achievements, citing a doubling in the number of businesswomen over the past five years. She also noted that women comprise 46% of the workforce in economic and industrial sectors.
Legislative reforms designed to bolster women's rights and freedoms were also recognized. Specifically, amendments aimed at increasing the minimum representation of female candidates nominated by political parties from 30% to 40% of the total candidate pool were lauded for their potential to elevate women's voices in political decision-making processes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the group of women members of the Parliament of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic States endorsed a set of decisions and recommendations aimed at furthering women's empowerment across member states.
Additionally, it was agreed that the next gathering of the group would convene in Kazakhstan in 2025.
