The government of Kazakhstan has earmarked approximately KZT 16bn ($36.2mn) from its reserve fund for the modernization of heat sources in the cities of Kentau, Ridder, and Kyzylorda. This initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade the nation's heat and power infrastructure, in line with directives from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov recently signed resolutions authorizing the allocation of funds for the reconstruction and overhaul of key heat sources in the designated cities. Specifically, over KZT 9bn ($20.4mn) will be directed towards the reconstruction of boilers at CHP-5 in Kentau, while approximately KZT 4.9bn ($11mn) will be allocated for the overhaul of equipment and infrastructure at the Ridder thermal power plant. Additionally, more than KZT 2bn ($4.5mn) will be invested in the reconstruction of steam boilers in Kyzylorda.
These investments are expected to ensure reliable heat supply to residents in Kentau, Ridder, and Kyzylorda during upcoming heating seasons. The modernization efforts are part of a broader plan to repair 10 power units, 55 boilers, and 45 turbines across various cities in preparation for the 2024 heating season.
Furthermore, ongoing projects include the restoration of power unit No. 1 at Ekibastuz GRES-1 and the replacement of turbine units at Atyrau CHP and Topar GRES. Future endeavors entail the construction of power unit No. 3 at the Ekibastuz State District Power Plant, as well as expansions at the Ust-Kamenogorsk Thermal Power Plant and Karaganda Thermal Power Plant-3.
The implementation of these projects is expected to add over 1,500 MW of new capacity to Kazakhstan's power grid, contributing to the nation's energy security and infrastructure development.
