The population of Kazakhstan reached 20,118,478 people as of May 1, 2024, marking an increase of 84,636 individuals since the beginning of the year. The three most densely populated areas in the country are:
- Almaty city – 2,249,370 people
- Turkestan region – 2,147,234 people
- Almaty region – 1,540,567 people
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's population is almost 37 mn, representing 0.44% of the global population, ranking 43rd globally. The country surpasses Kazakhstan by nearly 17 mn, highlighting its status as the most populous Central Asian country.
57.3% of Kazakh's population is urban, totalling 11,226,799 people as of 2023. Kazakhstan's urbanization rate surpasses Uzbekistan by 7.8% and Kyrgyzstan by 20.6%.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan is the most densely populated with a density of 83 per Km² (214 people per mi²) over 425,400 Km². The nation's density surpasses Kazakhstan by 76 people per Km² and Turkmenistan by 69 people per Km².
