Uzbekistan plans population census for 2025-2026
The Statistics Agency under the President of Uzbekistan has been tasked with organizing a population census in 2025-2026, as outlined in the “road map” for deepening reforms in the field of official statistics, approved by the decree of the head of state on March 5.
This endeavor requires meticulous planning and preparation, with the agency allocated responsibilities throughout 2024 to lay the groundwork for the upcoming census. Among these tasks is the development of promotional materials such as videos, banners, flyers, and booklets to raise awareness and educate the public about the census.
Moreover, the agency has been instructed to enhance the forms of census questionnaires based on insights gathered from the pilot census conducted in 2021, along with recommendations provided by international experts. This process ensures that the census instruments are tailored to accurately capture essential demographic information.
Another critical aspect of the preparation involves finalizing the Population Census information system, drawing from international best practices and expert advice. Additionally, acquiring a license for the practical STATA software package is imperative to facilitate data analysis and management effectively.
Furthermore, generating layouts for output tables of census results and devising a comprehensive plan for organizing the census are pivotal tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient data collection process.
The census itself is scheduled to take place in 2025-2026, with the results expected to be compiled and published in 2026-2027. This data will provide invaluable insights into the demographic landscape of Uzbekistan, enabling informed decision-making across various sectors.
In tandem with the population census, the Statistics Agency aims to develop methodological documents for the preparation and conduct of an agricultural census by the end of 2025. This comprehensive study will offer insights into various aspects of the agricultural sector, including land use, irrigation, livestock, and labor involvement.
The regulatory framework for conducting the agricultural census is slated to be adopted in 2027-2028.
Uzbekistan has not conducted a population census in 34 years, making this upcoming endeavor a significant milestone in the country's statistical landscape.
