President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan engaged in discussions with Singaporean President Shanmugaratnam during his visit to Singapore, with both expecting their mutual trade to soon exceed $2bn, Akorda reported.
The talks between the two leaders commenced following a ceremonial welcome, where the national anthems of both countries echoed, and an honor guard company extended a warm reception. Pleasantries continued as President Tokayev and President Shanmugaratnam introduced their respective official delegations.
President Tokayev's visit holds historical significance, marking the first by a Kazakh President to Singapore in over two decades. Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to the Kazakh delegation, President Tokayev reminisced on his past diplomatic stint in Singapore during the 1970s, expressing delight in returning, this time as the Head of State.
Highlighting the partnership between Kazakhstan and Singapore, President Tokayev praised Singapore as a dependable ally. He noted the presence of over 140 Singaporean companies and joint ventures in Kazakhstan, with Singaporean investments in the Kazakh economy surpassing $1.7bn. Reiterating Kazakhstan's commitment to fostering a new era of bilateral cooperation, President Tokayev emphasized trust, political dialogue, and the vitality of trade and investment relations.
In response, President Shanmugaratnam lauded the progressive development of interaction between the two nations and expressed eagerness to further enhance bilateral cooperation. Detailed discussions ensued, exploring opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including trade, economics, investment, culture, and humanitarian endeavors.
President Tokayev stressed Kazakhstan's keen interest in bolstering partnership with Singapore in crucial sectors such as energy, infrastructure, digital economy, fintech, agriculture, logistics, and communications. The talks also emphasized mutual commitments to promoting beneficial investment projects and strengthening the legal framework of bilateral relations.
Both leaders acknowledged the importance of intensifying cooperation in education and human capital development, aligning with a shared vision for long-term sustainable growth and prosperity.
