President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and Türkiye reached an impressive $6bn in 2023. In his meeting with Numan Kurtulmuş, Chairman of the National Assembly of Türkiye, President Tokayev expressed strong optimism about boosting this trade turnover to $10bn in the near future.
The meeting, held in the Presidential Palace, focused on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and reinforcing bilateral ties. President Tokayev underscored the importance of Kurtulmuş's visit, particularly as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation between the two nations.
“Today’s meeting is taking place on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation and has symbolic significance. Recently, my colleague Recep Tayyip Erdogan and I had a telephone conversation. We maintain constant contact. The dialogue between our countries is developing very fruitfully. Türkiye is one of the five largest trading partners and ten major investors in Kazakhstan,” President Tokayev stated.
Chairman Kurtulmuş expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to the Turkish delegation and highlighted the deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations.
“Kazakhstan is the land of our ancestors, the birthplace of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, the spiritual mentor who unites the entire Turkic world. Tomorrow we will visit sacred places in Turkestan and hold a conference at the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmed Yassawi. Kazakhstan, under your leadership, is entering a new stage of development,” Chairman Kurtulmuş voiced.
He praised Kazakhstan's political, economic, and social reforms and expressed confidence in the growing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade, technology, industry, logistics, energy, and agriculture.
President Tokayev and Chairman Kurtulmuş also exchanged views on deepening cooperation among member countries of the Organization of Turkic States and enhancing interaction within international organizations. They reviewed the schedule of upcoming summit meetings, signaling a strong commitment to continued collaboration on regional and global issues.
In closing, President Tokayev expressed confidence that Turkish athletes would actively participate in the V World Nomad Games, which are set to take place in Astana this September, further cementing the cultural and sporting ties between the two countries.
