In the aftermath of the floods, several large companies have pledged assistance to support the construction and purchase of housing for those affected in the West Kazakhstan region. This initiative comes as the region works towards recovery and rebuilding, with efforts being spearheaded by high-level officials and business leaders.
Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, along with prominent business figures such as Nurlan Smagulov, founder and head of the Astana Group holding, Bakhytbek Baiseitov, chairman of the board of directors of Bank CenterCredit, and other key executives from major corporations, visited the flooded areas of Uralsk and the village of Podstepnoe in the Terektinsky district. Their visit included inspections of the flooded dacha areas and meetings with local residents at evacuation points.
The flood situation in the West Kazakhstan region has largely stabilized, allowing over 8,500 people to return to their homes. However, preliminary assessments reveal that 466 individual housing units and more than 2,500 country houses, which served as primary residences, are beyond repair. The commission is working diligently to complete the technical inspection and assessment of the affected properties by the end of the month, as instructed by Deputy Prime Minister Bozumbayev.
In response to the housing crisis, construction of 357 new houses has commenced in the Syrymsky, Karatobinsky, Terektinsky, Burlinsky, and Baitereksky districts. The local Akimat has designated contractors for these projects, with a completion target set for the end of August.
The Kazakhstan Khalkyna Foundation is financing the construction of 114 houses in the Syrym district, with an investment of KZT 3.2bn ($7.2mn). Local subsoil user companies, including Zhaikmunai, Condensate, and Aksaygazservice, are responsible for building 75 houses, while the Karachaganak Petroleum Operating Company, through the Akzhaiyk Fund, is constructing 71 housing units.
Special attention is being given to the plight of summer residents who have lost their only homes. Akim (mayor) of the West Kazakhstan region, Nariman Turegaliev, emphasized that the city akimat (city administration) has been tasked with rapidly assessing and providing housing solutions for these residents. He also noted that new houses will not be constructed in low-lying areas to prevent future flood risks.
Deputy Prime Minister Bozumbayev has urged for expedited efforts in providing assistance and beginning the construction of new homes.
"Considering the assistance provided to the region, it is essential to reach every affected family promptly, make all necessary payments, and commence the construction of residential buildings without any bureaucratic delays," he stated during a meeting at the regional akimat (city administration).
The meeting also addressed the need for financial support from the state, ensuring comprehensive assistance to all flood-affected families.
